Synergy Between Trailer/Cover/Poster

Film packages tend to include many different forms of conveying similar information e.g. trailer, a website for the film itself, a poster, a main article in a magazine about the film and the actors involved and more. This use of synergy is used to promote and advertise the film to a wider audience across the global by the use of internet and social networking sites. Taking this into consideration the film I have chosen to research is 'Insidious' as it is the same genre as the trailer that I am currently producing, this film was promoted in many ways such as the Google search engine.

The film also has its own official website which shows the poster of the film and includes other information such as a blog which has been written by a woman who is 'haunted from the dead'. The website also links you to there Twitter and Facebook links and has a link of which you click on to watch the trailer on Youtube. IMDb and Wikipedia are also used to promote the film, as they are well known websites.

Thoughtout this use of synergy certain conventions remained the same so that the film can be recognised.

• The little boy which appears on the poster has also been used as the main image on the background of the website. It's also displayed on IMDb and Wikipedia. This has been used to associate them all with the film.
• The same colour theme has been used throughout the poster and website, such as black red and white text, the house as the background image with the dark clouds and the eyes on the little boy which makes the poster unique. The same lighting has been used to show that there is something 'devil' like about the little boy and shows that he is the "evil" character within the film.
• The use of Richard Dyers star theory has been used as on every poster you see of this film they have stated what other films that the creaters have produced, therefore this appeals to a wider audience as people who have liked films such as 'Saw' and 'Paranormal Activity' will be more willing to go and see the film as they know what to expect.
