Film Idents

Here is a list of different idents within the industry which inspired me.

Dreamworks SKG

  • The idea is simple and basic therefore people are more likely to remember the image of the little boy fishing on the moon.
  • The story behind the ident is that the man who created the ident painted his son who is the little boy and then the moon was added in later.

Theories Within The Media

Propp
Vladimir Propp developed a character theory for studying media texts and productions, which indicates that there were 7 broad character types in the 100 tales he analysed, which could be applied to other media:
1.   The villain (struggles against the hero)
2.   The donor (prepares the hero or gives the hero some magical object)
3.   The (magical) helper (helps the hero in the quest)
4.   The princess (person the hero marries, often sought for during the narrative)
5.   Her father (usually dies during or before the film/book)
6.   The dispatcher (character who makes the lack known and sends the hero off)
7.   The hero or victim/seeker hero, reacts to the donor, weds the princess

Tzvertan Todorov
Narrative is the organisation given to a series of facts. The human mind needs narrative to make sense of things. We connect events and make interpretations based on those connections. In everything we seek a beginning, middle and an end.

Richard Dyer
Richard Dyers star theory is the idea that icons and celebrities are constructed by institutions for financial gains and are built to target a specific audience or group of people.
Dyers theory can easily be broken down into segments such as:
  • Audience and institutions
  • Constructions
  • Hegemony (Cultural Beliefs)
Mulvey
Laura Mulvey coined the term “male gaze” in 1975. She believed that audiences have to “view” characters from the perspective of a heterosexual male. The concept of gaze is one that deals with how and audience views the people presented.

For feminists it can be thought of in 3 ways such as:
  • How men look at women
  • How women look at themselves
  • How women look at other women

Actors List

There were two main actors in the film, the victum who is played by Faye Ledgerton. The reason why Faye was chosen as the victum was show that she could show a "young vunerable girl" who is then followed by a killer and then is declared as missing.

The killer in the trailer was played by Ellena Gore, the reason why Ellena was casted as the killer was because she was taller than Faye, therefore we needed the killer to be more dominating. Another reason for choosing Ellena was because of her choice of costume as she already had them to hand such as the black coat, the knife, gloves and boots. Therefore she was perfect for the role of the killer.

Woman in Black

The Woman in Black is a 2012 psychological/supernatural horror-thriller film directed by James Watkins and written by Jane Goldman, and is based on Susan Hill's novel of the same name. It was produced by Hammer Film Productions.

One marketing stratgie which was used was to played on the role of that Daniel Radcliffe was the lead actor throughout the film. Also this was the next main film for him since Harry Potter. This method is successful as you can gain viewers automatically from just Harry Potter fans.

Another method of marketing that was used was a 'teaser campaign' this involved a Halloween competition which was used through youtube. The winner recieved goodies which Harry Potter fans would like such as mugs and t-shirts etc. The opportunity to see the London Premier and other merchandise from the film Woman in Black.

The first official UK teaser poster was released on 24th August 2011, followed by the full UK trailer being released on 14th October 2011.
